The presentation is for practitioners who serve children with disabilities and other professionals who are involved with these students. Discussion and experience with different communication techniques appropriate for children with disabilities, and how to incorporate picture communication and other assistive technologies into the classroom, will be included in the presentation.

Presenter Bios:

Laura Moss

For the past two years, Laura taught children with low-incidence disabilities in the Elementary school setting.. This year, she is teaching students who are 11-13 years old with varying disabilities at Marley Glen School. Laura facilitates the technology committee at her current school and organizes professional development around technology. Currently, she attends Johns Hopkins University as a graduate student in Assistive Technology for Special Education. She received her undergraduate degree from University of Delaware as an Early Childhood Education and Special Education major.

Robin Bludgus

Robin has been working as a speech-language pathologist in the Anne Arundel County Public School system since completing graduate school at Loyola College in 2004. She has worked with the Infants and Toddlers program, providing service to children ages birth to 3 in home and day care settings, and at two of Anne Arundel County’s center schools. Currently, she works full-time at Marley Glen Special Center, and provides speech-language services to students in 10 different preschool classrooms.  These students' needs include everything from articulation errors to nonverbal communication, such as social language difficulties, expressive and/or receptive language disorders, behavior modification, and use of high and low tech augmentative communication.
